The Swiss Federal Institute for Industrial Property ("EIGE") has its headquarters in Berne and is responsible for the intellectual property requirements in Switzerland. Founded in 1888, it has had the status of an independent public-law institution since 1996. The Institute is eco-nomically autonomous and is independent of the Federal Government budget.
The Federal Administrative Court is located in St.Gallen. It is the second instance court for decisions of the EIGE.
The World Intellectual Property Organization ("WIPO") as an international organisation connected to the UN has its headquarters in Geneva and administers inter alia PCT Patent Applications via the International Bureau. The WIPO also administers trademark applications and trademarks according to the Madrid Agreements.
